HAPS was formed as a State of Hawaii not for profit corporation on 15 July 2004. the founding members and original officers were Kalani Ogata, Tim Cislo, Mari Ann Kiyabu and Colin Perry.
In September of 2005 the corporation bylaws were changed to allow the organization to apply for federal exempt status as a charitable foundation under section 501c3 of the IRS code. The 501 (c) (3) status was approved by the IRS, effective date July 15, 2005

Brief BIOs in alphabetical order:
Tim Cislo, Both a HAPS and Hawaii Museum of Flying founder, is the son of a highly decorated WWII Navy fighter pilot. Tim also is a lifelong aviation buff and historian. He was one of the founders of the Hawaii Museum of Flying in 1999 and also of the Hawaii Aviation Preservation Society in 2004. Tim is a glider pilot and founder of the Vintage Glider Shop. He still maintains a hangar at Dillingham Field (HDH) in addition to a aviation hangar and shop facility on the Kalaeloa Airport (PHJR)
Scott Gier, A Contributor, is a 1969 Naval Academy graduate, and an ex A-4 jet pilot. He is the son of a WWII and Korean War fighter pilot. His father, USMC Major Scott G. Gier flew F4U Corsairs through the south pacific island hopping campaign of WWII. On 3/21/51 Major Gier went missing in action (Later KIA, BNR) after taking ground fire and crash landing during a close air support mission in his Corsair. Scott is also a noted science fiction author. (http://genellan.com/) In addition to being an avid hiker and surfer, he is also an excellent mountain goat.
Brad Hayes, A contributor, was one of the founders of the Hawaii Museum of Flying (Now Naval Air Museum Barbers Pt) and he now manages that entity. A commercial glider pilot and licensed aviation mechanic. He grew up in Hawaii, served in the USMC and is a recognized expert in naval aviation history. When he's not working at Kalaeloa Airport or Pacific Helicopters, he is always more than willing to lend a helping hand to HAPS projects.
Don Hinton, A retired USAF officer and HAPS contributor, is an active hiker and a aviation history expert. He is a "museum class" model builder who donated a memorial model F6F-3 replica of a 1944 fatal crash to be placed by HAPS at Kalaeloa Tower. Don moved to Spokane Washington in July of 2007, and though we will miss him, we look forward to his contributions to future HAPS research projects.
Errol Hopkins, A HAPS contributor, and the HAPS community outreach coordinator. Errol is legendary in the Hawaii Geocaching community, known as "Dadwrap". He is an avid hiker, exploring virtually all of the mountain trails of Oahu. When not Geocaching or searching for wrecks, his daytime job is President and a Principal of Jerry Hay, Inc a general insurance agency in Honolulu.
Colin Perry, Director, a HAPS co-founder, contributor, and webmaster, is a retired USAF troop carrier/Military Airlift pilot and Pan Am pilot who grew up in Hawaii. He now does the admin duties and website updates for HAPS. He leads hikes for the Nature Conservancy of Hawaii and is an insurance agent for Jerry Hay, Inc in Honolulu when not in the mountains of Oahu.
Toni Russ, A HAPS contributor and staff historian. Toni moved to Hawaii in 2007 after serving at the Air Force Historical Research Agency at Maxwell AFB, AL as an archivist and researcher. Toni is the HAPS photographer and public events coordinator.
